Programme 16 18 middle 1

COURSE OVERVIEW

English. In the afternoon students may attend an intensive course in English as a Second Language and work towards improving their general language skills. Classes will focus on all aspects of language, such as reading, writing, listening and speaking, but will be tailored to the needs of the specific course participants.

Academic English. This is an afternoon class for the more advanced English students. This focuses on the academic use of the language, and students have a chance to improve their performance dramatically by developing their academic writing style, and engaging in critical thinking, debating, the study and discussion of selected topics from British history and literature, together with honing their practical skills such as efficient internet research.  All of these are of course indispensable not only for mastering the English language but also for developing a sophisticated understanding of its cultural and historical context. This workshop is ideal for those interested in languages, history and literature who would like to study one or more of these subjects at a higher level.

All English classes are held over 1.5 hours x 5 times a week in a very friendly and comfortable atmosphere, led by native speakers. We cater for students of all levels of English proficiency.

Range of IB Diploma Programme courses on offer.

Programme 16 18 middle 2

WaterSports. Another option for 16-18 year-olds consists of a choice of different water sport activities such as wake boarding and waterskiing (4 times a week x 30 mins each session). Various towables are also available. Additionally once a week there will be a trip to the ancient town of Nin, with its sandy shallow beaches and strong winds, to try and master kite- and/or wind-surfing (a half-day trip). Please refer to the Sports page for more information and detail on this workshop.

END OF PROGRAMME

Students are provided with an assessment of their progress at the end of every fortnight, and a graduation certificate on completion of each chosen programme (English, Workshops and Sports). They will summarise the topics covered in and outside class, and offer positive and constructive feedback to help them build on their successes.

The end of the two-week programme is always marked with a presentation night held on the final Saturday of the programme. This is a chance for all participants to show off their new or improved skills and share their workshop results with other summer school members and even a public audience. It is a great night and parents are of course all very welcome to attend too.
